Funeral services for Mrs. Kate Bradley O'Connell, who died at her home on Clifton Avenue here this morning, will be held at the Church of the Annunciation in this city on Monday. Mrs. O'Connell was a native of Jessamine County, daughter of Paul and Rosa McNamee Bradley, having been born on December 2, 1865. Surviving are five children, James M. O'Connell, Misses Elizabeth O'Connell, Catherine O'Connell and Mary O'Connell, of Paris, John K. O'Connell of Latonia; a brother, James Bradley, and a sister, Mrs. John Mahaney, residents of Chattanogga, Tennessee. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery near Paris.

OLDHAM, DR. SAM P.
Dr. Sam O. Oldham died in New Castle, Henry County, August 12, 1909. He was a popular physician and had relatives in Jessamine County. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Georgia Oldham. Among the many present at the funeral were Dr. George Oldham, of Louisville, son of Mrs. Georgia Oldham, Douglas Oldham, of Smithfield, Dr. Sam Oldham of Owensboro, and sister, Miss Magie, Judge Joseph Pryor and Mrs. Laban Phelps, of Louisville.

Mrs. Rosa Padgett died at her home in Jessamine county last Friday; she leaves a husband and five little children.

PAYNE, SUSAN HIGHTOWER
The Virginia (III) Enquirer reports the death of Mrs. Susan Hightower Payne, which occurred at that place, Feb. 21, 1894. She was the daughter of the late Richard Hightower and was born at Nicholasville, Ky., May 29, 1804. March 15, 1819, she was united in marriage to Fleming Payne, a merchant tailor at Nicholasville. Mr. Payne died July 25, 1836, and in 1865, Mrs. Payne went to Illinois to live with her son, William B. Payne. Mrs. Payne is remembered very highly by many of the oldest citizens of the town and county.
PEEL, AGNES MAE TEATER
Agnes Mae Teater Peel, 94, widow of Jordan J. Peel, died Nov. 17, 2000. The daughter of the late Haze and Mary Jane Burgin Teater. She was a member of the Jess. Co. Sr. Citizens, Homemakers, and the Church of the Nazarene. She is survived by 3 sons and their wives, Russell and Betty Peel, Chester R. and Joyce Peel, Hoover and Mary Ella Peel, all of Nicholasville; daughter in law, Maydean Peel of Nicholasville; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by 3 children, Huston “Tince”, Jord Jr., Vernard Cook Peel. Funeral services were held at Betts and West with the Rev. David Rosoc and the Rev. Don Reed officiating. Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers were David, Doodle, Jeff, Lois, Eddie Peel, Johnathan Wallace, Josh and Seth Mulcahy.

PEEL, GILBERT
Gilbert Peel, age 40 years, died suddenly at his home on Belle Ave. Tuesday morning, (April 5, 1938) of heart trouble. Mr. Peel had been in ill health for several months, but his sudden death came as a surprise and shock to his many friends. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam J. Peel, who survive him, also his widow, Mrs. Ema Peel. The funeral services will be held at the residence Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock, conducted by Rev. R. L. Badgett and burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The pall bearers will be Vernon Walker, Pearson Peel, Harry Crutchfield, Marvin Hart, J. C. Davenport and Adam Dean. The family has the sympathy of a wide circle of friends.

Gilbert Peel, 79, of Royal Manor Nursing Home, husband of Flossie Cheek Peel, died Jan. 20 (1998). He was the son of the late Squire and Annie Reed Peel. He was a retired farmer. Additional survivors include two sons, Eugene Peel of Lexington and Odell Peel and his wife, Debbie, of Nicholasville; four daughters, Helen Spradlin and her husband, Jim, Jr., and Jewell Blevins and her husband, Ronnie, all of Lexington, JoAnn Lowery and her husband, Sammy, and Hazel Bell and her husband, Robert, of Nicholasville; 15 grandchildren, Steve and Jeff Lathery, Ricky Jr., Dale, Willie, Travis, Devona and Wanda Peel, Jimmy Spradlin, Becky Lowery, Michael Peel, Roy Bell, Nathan, Phillip and Heather Peel; four great-grandchildren; one step great-grandchild; two sisters, Nora Blakeman of Nicholasville, and Hazel Ryburn of Illinois. He was preceded in death by 21 brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held on Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Betts and West Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Peel officiating. Burial followed at Maple Grove Cemetery. Casket bearers were Steve and Jeff Lathery, Odell, Ricky, Jr., Dale, Willie Peel and Jimmy Spradlin. Honorary bearers were Milton Stinnett, Earl Lowery, A. G. Canter, James Lathery, Jr., David Bain and David Canter.

Nicholasville - Mrs. Mary F. Peel died this morning as the result of burns sustained yesterday. She was engaged in rendering lard when in some way her clothes ignited and she was fatally burned before help could reach her. She was 55 years old and is survived by her husband, Thomas Peel, and three children.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today (Friday) at the Guyn, Kurtz and Hager funeral home for Mrs. Minnie English Peel, 77, a former restaurant operator here, who died Tuesday morning (June 8, 1954) at the home of Marvin Hart in Franklin County. Survivors include two brothers, C. C. English, Nicholasville; and R. K. English, Titusville, Fla. Rev. W. J. Arvin, pastor of the Nicholasville Christian Church will officiate, and burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Buell, Norris and Victor English, Marvin Hart, Spencer L. Cobb and Tom Brumfield.

PHILLIPS, HAZEL FAYNE GRAHAM
Hazel Fayne Graham Phillips, 95, died Dec. 8, 2000 at Royal Manor Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Manford and Daisy Easley Fayne. She was a member of the Mountain Assembly of God and was very active in the Senior Citizens Center and Homemakers for many years. She is survived by a sister, Violet McQuerry; a brother, Bill Fayne of Nicholasville; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husbands Henry Graham and Cecil Phillips; 2 brothers Ralph and Ray Fayne. Funeral services were held Monday at Betts and West with Dr. Brad Walden officiating. Burial followed Springhill Cemetery. Bearers were her nephews. Contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass.

PORTER, MARIAN MARGARET AND RUSSELL
One of the most pathetic bereavements we have had to record is that which has come upon Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Porter, of Louisville, who, while visiting her sister, Mrs. Chas. W. Welch, of this place, lost both of their bright little children from that dread disease, diptheria. Little Marian Margaret, who would have been five years old the 20th of October and her little brother, Russell, who was three, the 8th of May, were stricken about the same time, one short week ago and died on Wednesday morning, Aug 1, 1894, within three hours of each other. Their burial took place at Maple Grove cemetery, Thursday afternoon, at 2 p.m., services conducted by Rev. Carr Moore. Mrs. Bessie Porter, who is well-known as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Peyton, is almost prostrated by this double sorrow, having expressed some misgivings at leaving her home in Louisville, during the heated term, little dreaming that the life story of her little blossoms would, like the blighted buds, close thus their leaves, to open in another ??? of the rarest sunshine and beauty, that sees no blight. “The will of God is all in all. He makes, destroys, remakes for His good pleasure.”
PORTER, SUSAN SINGLETON
Mrs. Susan Singleton Porter, aged about 70 years, died at her home in Midway, Thursday, Jan. 23, 1902, from paralysis of the brain. She was the widow of Nathaniel Porter, once county clerk of Woodford, and a sister of Mrs. A. B. Robinson, dec'd of Nicholasville. It is said that the Singleton sisters furnished the leading characters in Mrs. Mary Jane Holmes' popular novel of “Sunshine and Tempest.” Mrs. Holmes taught a private school in Versailles prior to the Civil war and boarded in the Singleton family. It was then she gathered material from real characters for the story, which subsequently made her reputation. Mrs. Porter conducted a boarding house in Midway for several years. Her only child, Mrs. Dora Brashear, died several years ago.
POWELL, MARTHA
Mrs. Martha Powell, wife of James Powell, died at her home near Wilmore, on the 18th inst, of sporadic cholera, after a brief illness, aged 57. The deceased leaves a husband and five children, also a brother, J. M. Wilmore, of this county, and a sister, who resides at Bloomington, Ill. Funeral took place Sunday from the family residence, Rev. F. C. Savage, conducting the services, after which the remains were brought to Nicholasville and interred in Maple Grove cemetery. POWERS, REV. CHARLES WESLEY
The Rev. Charles Wesley Powers, 83, of Linden Lane, Nicholasville, husband of Ruberta Arlington Powers, died Tues. Oct 3, 2000 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was a retired Baptist minister, having served 46 years in the ministry at South Central Baptist Churches: Hardinsburg, Columbia, Mt. Washington, Thompsonville, Chaplin and Campbellsville. He was a graduate of Campbellsville College and an Army vet serving in WW II. Rev. Powers was born May 27, 1917 in Hancock Co., Ky, the son of the late Dewey and Sadie Jackson Powers. He is survived by his sons and daughters in law, Charles and Charlotte Powers of Lexington, Jack and Brenda Powers of Lancaster, Delbert and Phyllis Powers of Nicholasville; four grandchildren, Angie Crossfield, Julianne Little, Jennifer Rainwater and Kirstie Hanks; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Marcella Basham, Collen Mayfield and Imogene Phillips. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Austin and Edward Powers, and a sister Gertrude Conner. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Thursday, at Betts and West Funeral Home. Visitation was held Weds. from 5 to 9 and will be held again after 10 am on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Camp Nelson National Cemetery.

Forrest Preston, 69, of Hamilton, Ohio, formerly of Nicholasville, died Oct. 19, 2000 at Mercy Hospital. He was a retired farm laborer, born June 13, 1931 in Garrard Co. He was the son of the late Irvin and Mary Frances Carey Preston. He is survived by 2 brothers, Mitchell and Roger Preston; 2 sisters, Joanne Frances Preston, Barbara Jean Land; numerous other family members. Funeral services were held Betts and West Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Harrison officiating. Burial followed at Mose Reynolds Cemetery. Bearers were Jim Coffman, Rock Stevens, Otta Burgun, Gene Welch, Mike Drury, Bob States.

Mrs. Sallie Preston, aged 61 years, died at her home here Friday, Dec. 11 (1925), following an illness of two weeks. Mrs. Preston was the widow of the late Frank Preston. She was a kind and devoted mother and a good neighbor. She is survived by seven children: Mrs. Houston Todd, Berea; Mrs. Richard Flowers, Justice, O.; Mrs. Elizabeth Watkins, Nicholasville; Mrs. Vernon Stewart, Taylorsville, NC; H. D. Preston, Beattyville; Howard Preston, Rosedale, Kan.; Russell Preston, Cincinnati, O.; her mother, Mrs. Casandra Harris, and a sister, Mrs. L. D. Shearer, of this city. The funeral services were held at the residence of L. D. Shearer Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. I. Peel and the body was buried in Maple Grove Cemetery.

PRICE, L. C.
L. C. Price, 65 years old, died at his home, Penmoken Stock Farm, on the Lexington-Nicholasville pike, in Fayette County, Monday night, Dec. 13, 1915, at 9:30 o'clock of acute heart trouble. The end came suddenly. While he was sitting before the fire, after eating a hearty supper, he became ill and retired to his room. When he showed no improvement, a physician was hurriedly called to his bedside from Lexington, but was unable to do anything for him. Mr. Price was a retired merchant having been engaged in the dry goods business in Lexington for many years. He was born in Jessamine County, but for thirty years, with L. C. Price, under the firm name of Cassell & Price was engaged in business in Lexington. In 1899, he retired from active business in the city, after having bought Penmoken Stock Farm the year before. He had since made Penmoken famous as a breeding place for Shetland ponies which he sold in all sections of the United States. His wife, Mrs. Mary Mason Price, who is from Mississippi, survives him, besides a son, L. C. Price, Jr, and his mother, Mrs. Frances C. Karsner and A. C. Karsner, and a sister, Mrs. C. N. Cochran, of Fayette County. Mr. Price was a member of the Broadway Christian church and had many friends in Nicholasville and Jessamine County. Funeral services were conducted at the home place, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. Mark Collis and Rev. Edwin Muller officiating. The remains were interred in the Lexington cemetery.

Mr. William H. Price, aged 58 years, died this morning at the residence of his son-in-law, Hon. W.P. Kimball, after an illness of more than two years. His father was the late Cleber Price, a well known and greatly respected citizen of Jessamine County. His great-grandfather was Col. William Price, of Virginia.
